भारतीय नौसेना की नौकायन और विंड सर्फिंग टीमों के प्रतिभागियों ने हाल ही में संपन्न हुई भारतीय नौकायन संघ की मल्टीक्लास सेलिंग चैंपियनशिप (आईएन-एमडीएल कप 2022) में दो स्वर्ण (नाक्रा 17 और 470 मिक्स्ड क्लास), एक रजत (470 मिक्स्ड क्लास) और दो कांस्य पदक (49ईआर और आईक्यूफॉईल वर्ग में) हासिल कर शानदार प्रदर्शन किया।
नौकायन की इस खेल स्पर्धा का आयोजन 8 से 15 मई 2022 तक नौकाओं की वरिष्ठ श्रेणी में ओलंपिक वर्गों के लिए भारतीय नौकायन संघ (वाईएआई) तथा भारतीय नौसेना नौकायन संघ (आईएनएसए) के सौजन्य से मुंबई में भारतीय नौसेना जल कौशल प्रशिक्षण केंद्र (आईएनडब्ल्यूटीसी) में आयोजित किया गया था।
इस चैंपियनशिप को मैसर्स मझगांव डॉक शिपबिल्डर्स लिमिटेड (एमडीएल) द्वारा प्रायोजित किया गया और यह वाईएआई रैंकिंग इवेंट के साथ-साथ एशियाई खेलों के लिए चयन परीक्षण भी थी।
नौकायन स्पर्धा का आयोजन मुंबई बंदरगाह से किया गया। देश भर के 10 सेलिंग क्लबों के कुल 97 नाविकों ने इस प्रतियोगिता में भाग लिया। प्रतिभागियों ने 5 पदकों की रेस सहित 121 नौकायन स्पर्धाओं में भाग लिया और 5 दिन की अवधि में 8-15 केटीएस तथा अस्थिर समुद्र की तेज लहरों में खेल कौशल का प्रदर्शन कर अपने राष्ट्रीय रैंकिंग के अंक हासिल किए। यह भारतीय नौकायन के इतिहास में पहली बार था, जब पांच वर्गों अर्थात आईएलसीए 7, आईएलसीए 6, 49ईआर, 470 (मिक्स्ड) और आरएस:एक्स के लिए पदक रेस आयोजित की गई थी। श्रृंखला के अंतिम दिन तक प्रतिस्पर्धा के स्तर को बनाए रखने के लिए सभी प्रमुख नौकायन स्पर्धाओं में दोहरे अंकों के साथ मेडल रेस की अवधारणा का उपयोग किया गया, जिसका इस्तेमाल दुनिया भर में किया जाता है।
वर्ल्ड सेलिंग क्वालिफाइड इंटरनेशनल रेस ऑफिसर्स, इंटरनेशनल जज और इंटरनेशनल मेजरर सहित इवेंट अधिकारियों की एक टीम ने सभी प्रतिभागियों के लिए निष्पक्ष एवं स्तरीय खेल भावना सुनिश्चित करने के लिए त्रुटिरहित तरीके से काम किया।
वाइस एडमिरल के स्वामीनाथन, एवीएसएम, पीवीएसएम, चीफ ऑफ स्टाफ, एचक्यूडब्ल्यूएनसी, आईएनडब्ल्यूटीसी (मुंबई) में 15 मई 2022 को आयोजित समापन समारोह के मुख्य अतिथि थे और उन्होंने विजेताओं को पदक प्रदान किए।
