डिफेंडिंग वनडे वर्ल्ड चैंपियन इंग्लैंड के लिए 2023 का वर्ल्ड कप किसी बुरे सपने से कम नहीं है। टीम को अब तक 5 में से 4 मैचों में हार मिल चुकी है और अब उनका अगला मुकाबला टेबल टॉपर और मेजबान भारत से होने वाला है। वर्ल्ड कप इतिहास में आज तक किसी भी डिफेंडिंग चैंपियन टीम ने शुरुआती 5 में से 4 मुकाबले नहीं गंवाए थे, लेकिन इंग्लैंड के नाम ये अनचाहा रिकॉर्ड भी दर्ज हो गया।
इंग्लैंड को श्रीलंका के खिलाफ वर्ल्ड कप में लगातार 5वीं हार मिली, वहीं टीम ने बेंगलुरु के बैटिंग फ्रेंडली मैदान पर सबसे छोटा स्कोर बनाने का अनचाहा रिकॉर्ड भी अपने नाम कर लिया।
1. कोई भी डिफेंडिंग चैंपियन शुरुआती 5 में से 4 मैच नहीं हारा
इंग्लैंड को वर्ल्ड कप 2023 में अब तक 5 में से 4 मैचों में हार मिल चुकी है। टीम को एकमात्र जीत बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ मिली, वहीं उन्हें न्यूजीलैंड और साउथ अफ्रीका के अलावा श्रीलंका और अफगानिस्तान ने भी हरा दिया। टीम इस वक्त 2 अंक लेकर पॉइंट्स टेबल में केवल नीदरलैंड से ऊपर 9वें नंबर पर है।
इंग्लैंड ने 2019 में अपने होम ग्राउंड पर न्यूजीलैंड को फाइनल हराकर वर्ल्ड कप जीता था। इस बार डिफेंडिंग चैंपियन के रूप में उतरने के बाद टीम ने 4 मैच गंवा दिए। बतौर डिफेंडिंग चैंपियन इससे पहले किसी भी टीम ने इतना खराब प्रदर्शन नहीं किया था। इंग्लैंड ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया को पीछे छोड़ा, जिन्होंने 1987 में चैंपियन बनने के बाद 1992 के टूर्नामेंट में शुरुआती 5 में से 3 मुकाबले गंवाए थे। श्रीलंका भी 1996 में जीतने के बाद 1999 में शुरुआती 5 में से 2 ही मुकाबले जीत सका था।
2. डिफेंडिंग चैंपियन के रूप ऑस्ट्रेलिया का प्रदर्शन बेस्ट
डिफेंडिंग चैंपियन के रूप में अब तक ऑस्ट्रेलिया और वेस्टइंडीज की टीमें ही विजेता की ट्रॉफी को सफलतापूर्वक डिफेंड कर पाई हैं। वेस्टइंडीज ने 1975 के बाद 1979 के वर्ल्ड कप में लगातार 4 मैच जीतकर विजेता की ट्रॉफी उठाई थी। वहीं ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने 1999 के बाद 2003 में शुरुआती 5 मैच जीते थे, टीम तब चैंपियन भी बनी थी। इतना ही नहीं टीम ने 2007 के वर्ल्ड कप में भी शुरुआती 5 मैच जीते और आखिर में विजेता की ट्रॉफी भी उठाई। खास बात ये भी कि टीम 2003 और 2007 में एक भी मैच नहीं हारी थी।
3. वर्ल्ड कप में दूसरी ही बार लगातार 3 मैच हारा इंग्लैंड
इंग्लैंड इस वर्ल्ड कप में लगातार 3 मुकाबले गंवा चुका है। श्रीलंका से पहले टीम को साउथ अफ्रीका और अफगानिस्तान से भी हार का सामना करना पड़ा। वर्ल्ड कप में ऐसा दूसरी बार ही हुआ जब इंग्लैंड को लगातार 3 मैचों में हार मिली। इससे पहले 1996 के वर्ल्ड कप में ही टीम ने लगातार 3 मुकाबले गंवाए थे। तब टीम ने UAE और नीदरलैंड को हराकर क्वार्टर फाइनल में जगह बनाई थी, जहां टीम को श्रीलंका के खिलाफ हार मिली थी।
